the most commonly used sample is the C-type dumbbell (ASTM D412 Type C), which has a total length of 115 mm (4.5 in), a gauge length of 25 mm (1 in), a measurement width of 6 mm (0.25 in), and a thickness of 3 mm. The thickness must be measured three times, and the median of the three measurements will be used as the thickness when calculating the cross-sectional area.
